About

Designer Note

Gurkama begins with a fascination for textile surfaces — the way fabrics can be layered, stitched, embroidered, and transformed through handwork.

In the studio, garments evolve slowly through experimentation with texture, material composition, and embroidery. Rather than beginning with a fixed design, the process often begins with the materials themselves — fabrics and fragments that already exist within the studio.

By working with what is available, the practice naturally encourages thoughtful use of materials and minimizes waste, while allowing unexpected textures and compositions to emerge.

Each jacket grows through this process of exploration, shaped by the dialogue between fabric, craftsmanship, and time.

Studio

The Gurkama studio works with an exploratory approach to textiles and surface construction.

Fabrics are layered, stitched, embroidered, and reassembled to create tactile surfaces that celebrate the richness of craft. Materials are treated not simply as fabric, but as elements that can be reshaped and composed into new textile forms.

This approach allows each garment to carry the marks of handwork, texture, and the quiet rhythm of making.

Good work deserves to endure.

Gurkama is a craft-led contemporary label rooted in textile traditions and thoughtful making.

Each piece is created with an emphasis on longevity—designed to be worn often, lived in, and held onto over time. We work closely with skilled artisans, valuing handwork, material integrity, and a slower, more considered approach to clothing.

At its core, Gurkama is for those who choose quality over quantity. For those who find meaning in what they wear, and return to pieces that feel both familiar and enduring.

Rooted in craft. Designed for longevity.
